New Year's Resolutions in MAY?! Calorie Budget Report!

Who talks about New Year’s Resolutions in May? We do. How you are you doing with yours?  My 2 resolutions had to do with BUDGETING… 1. My money 2. My calories to lose some weight.  Today’s post will revisit the latter.

I started to count calories (using myfitnesspal app) back in November.  I’ve lost 12+ pounds and I am really happy with how all my clothes fit.  Moreso, I am happy about what I eat and how I feel.   My “pals” who include girlfriends, sisters, mom, cousins, uncles, my husband and everyone else who asks us about it, can’t believe how it works!  It is pure MATH… clear scientific evidence (calories in- calories out)!  Counting calories works to lose weight! Everyone who stuck with it religiously for 12 weeks has made significant healthy changes.  Besides the inches lost, we have had some great laughs and created memories cheering each other on and competing at things.  It has been a fun game to play with each other- for heaven’s sake, my husband special ordered me adidas shoes with “muffintops” embroidered across the heel.  A couple girls got into the “alpha dog” competition at the gym and they kicked BUTT! One of them is advancing to the next round.  I have enjoyed many “plank offs” at parties with these healthy buddies.  My uncle who is 20- years older than me won the last round- darn it!

Birthday Traditions

Dear Diary,

One more year has passed for each of my baby girls... time to celebrate!  My girls' birthdays are a month apart. Eva has turned 3 and Mea is turning 5! After giving birth, I gained a whole new appreciation for BIRTHdays!  My appreciation was exponentially heightened when I was able to witness Layla, my niece come into this world.  It was indescribable...other-worldly. breathtaking. mindblowing... it left me speechless and will go down in history as the most amazing thing I have ever witnessed.  There is a deep sentiment to consider what we are celebrating on a birthday...  on this particular day, so many years ago, a miracle happened.  It is such a great reason to celebrate: LIFE!

Now the question, how do we celebrate it?  What traditions do we carry over from our own childhood.  What new traditions will we start?  Things will be ever changing but some things can stay the same.  Here is a list of 10 BIRTHDAY TRADITIONS:

Resolution #2 FITNESS… myfitnesspal app: Tested, Tried & True

Dear Diary,
Unlike the first resolution, my resolution to fitness is one I can speak confidently about.  I’ve been working on this one for years now.  The exciting part is that I finally have some answers that I think everyone, especially busy moms can appreciate.  I officially started a resolution to lose 15 pounds on October 16th 2011, three months ago… that’s 12 weeks so I can tell you what I’ve learned so far and what I plan to do moving forward.

The Art of the Scarf

scarfDear Diary,

Tis the season... to get out your scarves!  I used to think that scarves were mostly just something to warm my neck.  My mom wouldn't let us leave the house during the winter without moon boots lined with plastic baggies, a hat (not earmuffs!) and a scarf.  My mom would wrap the giant knit scarf around my whole head and face with just my eyes peeping
